Base of Story: Intrepid reporter Tintin and Captain Haddock set off on a treasure hunt for a sunken ship commanded by Haddock's ancestor.

Storyline: Tintin buys a model ship called the Unicorn from a market for just a pound. He's surprised when a sinister man named Mr. Sakharine desperately wants to buy it from him. Sakharine goes to extreme lengths, even resorting to kidnapping and murder, to get the ship. Alongside his faithful dog Snowy, Tintin gets caught up in Sakharine's plot and ends up on an old cargo ship headed to Morocco. On the ship, Tintin meets the ship's captain, a drunkard named Captain Haddock. Sakharine has paid off the crew to mutiny against Captain Haddock. However, Tintin, Snowy, and Captain Haddock manage to escape and make their way to Morocco. There, they meet a sheikh who also owns a model of the Unicorn. Captain Haddock reveals that his ancestor, Sir Francis Haddock, was a captain who sank the original Unicorn ship over three hundred years ago to protect its treasure from an attack by one of Sakharine's pirate ancestors. Sir Francis hid clues to the treasure's location in three Unicorn models, each containing a scroll.
Now, Tintin and Sakharine each possess one scroll, and Sakharine plans to obtain the third by using the high-pitched notes of a famous singer, the Milanese Nightingale. With the help of clumsy Interpol agents Thompson and Thomson, Tintin, Snowy, and Captain Haddock must stop Sakharine from gathering all three scrolls. It's said that only the last of the Haddock family can uncover the treasure's secrets.
